The Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the City of Americus are appointed by the Mayor of the City of Americus, GA.  Each commissioner, except the resident commissioner, is appointed to serve a five year term or to complete the term of the commissioner they are replacing.  Their terms are staggered so that one commissioner's term is set to expire each year on July 24th.  A commissioner can be reappointed for as many terms as the Mayor may desire. 

 

Our resident commissioner is also appointed by the Mayor of the City of Americus, GA., and that person is appointed to serve for a one year term.  The resident commissioner's term is set to expire July 24th of each year.  If the resident commissioner should lose their housing assistance from the Housing Authority, they would then be replaced.

 

The commissioners responsibilities include the hiring of a Chief Executive Officer, to set policy, and review the operations of the authority.

 

The Chief Executive Officer has the responsibility of running the day-to-day activities of the Housing Authority, acting as the Executive Director, and as secretary to the Board of Commissioners.

Chairman

Bobby L. Fuse, Jr.

Our Current Chairman is Bobby L. Fuse, Jr.  Mr. Fuse, is a retired school system administrator.  He was appointed to the Board of Commissioners on May 21, 2009.  His term is set to expire on July 24, 2028.  He also served as a commissioner at the Fulton County Housing Authority for approximately nine (9) years.

Vice-Chairman

Rick Arnold

Our current Vice-Chairman is Ricky Arnold.  Mr. Arnold is a general contractor.  He was appointed to the Board of Commissioners on July 23, 2012.  His term is set to expire on July 24, 2027.

Commissioner

Michelle A. Parker

Commissioner Michelle A. Parker is a licensed insurance agent in Property & Casualty Insurance with the Hooks Simmons Agency in Americus.  She was appointed to the Board of Commissioners on May 24, 2023 to fill the unexpired term of Jessica Wright.  Her term is set to expire on July 24, 2026.

G. Bardin Hooks, Jr.

Commissioner G. Bardin Hooks, Jr., is a local attorney with Arnold and Hooks, LLC.  He was appointed to the Board of Commissioners on July 23, 2015.  His term is set to expire on July 24, 2025.

Bill Krenson, Jr.

Commissioner Bill Krenson, Jr. is a Retired Certified Public Accountant.  He was appointed to the Board of Commissioners on August 24, 1995.  His term is set to expire on July 24, 2024

Resident Commissioner

Beverly Brown

Commissioner Beverly Brown is our resident commissioner.  She recently retired from her most recent employment with West Central Georgia Community Action Council, Inc.  She was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Mr. Dwight Chavis on February 13, 2022.  Her term is set to expire on July 24, 2024.

Chief Executive Officer

George F. Edge

Our Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2019, is George F. Edge.  He became employed with the Housing Authority of Americus on March 17, 1986 as an Occupancy Specialist.  He was Manager of Housing for several years, and on February 1, 2018, he was appointed CEO Designate.  He is a Certified Public Housing Manager.  He also serves as Treasurer of the Georgia Association of Housing and Redevolpment Authorities.  He and his family reside in Americus.
